I would rather disagree with this post. Not mentioning that this book is quite hard to read even for a native speaker due to "poetical" language, it is more about the man, than about the philosophy and ideas under GNU movement.
As matter of fact, I personally have read only preface and Chapters 1-3, but the beginning gives this flavor. So, "do not bow down to any idol or worship it" and if you're really interesting in what is GNU and free software are then go directly to Philosophy of the GNU Project of GNU.org site. For the major points it has translantions to many world languages.
